Proposed Changes

  • Sterile and Non-Sterile Compounding Rule (KAR 68-13-2, 68-13-3, 68-13-4)
    • KCHP strongly encourages you to review the draft of this rule and provide comment to the board before March 8 BOP meeting
    • Stay tuned for more information to come from KCHP soon
  • Addition of gabapentin
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (KAR 68-5-17)
    • Each technician will be required to pass the PTCB or ExCPT certification exam before first renewal period with ability to request for extension

Recent Changes

Effective December 15, 2017

  • Qualifying pharmaceutical experience (KAR 68-1-3a)
    • Clock hours as a student or registered intern to qualify as one year of experience increased from 1,500 to 1,740
  • Prepackaging or repackaging of drugs (KAR 68-7-15)
    • Allows pharmacists to dispense and repackage a prescribed medication with an ingestible event marker
  • Shared Services (KAR 68-7-20)
    • Requires each pharmacy participating in shared services to be actively engaged in operating its pharmacy
  • Fees for registrations and permits (KAR 68-11-2)

Effective January 12, 2018

  • Nonresident pharmacies
    • Satisfactory inspection records within previous 18-month period must be readily retrievable
